Athlete's Foot
Athlete’s foot is a common skin infection caused by fungus.
Despite its name, anyone can get athlete’s foot, not just athletes! The infection usually starts between the toes and can spread to the soles, sides of the feet or toenails if left untreated.
Symptoms
Common symptoms include:
itching
stinging
burning
cracked or flaky skin - especially between the toes, but could also be on the feet
redness
fluid-filled blisters
The condition is uncomfortable and sometimes unsightly, but mostly harmless and rarely serious. Athlete’s foot spreads easily in moist places, such as showers, swimming pools and changing rooms and through shared towels or footwear.

Treatment
Effective prevention and treatment focuses on keeping your feet clean and dry, changing socks daily and using breathable shoes. After washing, dry your feet thoroughly, paying special attention to the spaces between the toes. Avoid walking barefoot in communal areas, and don’t share towels or shoes with others.
Treatment usually starts with antifungal creams, sprays or powders available at your pharmacy. These help stop the spread of the fungus and clear up the infection over several weeks.
If your athlete’s foot doesn’t improve or keeps coming back, a pharmacist can offer advice or suggest seeing your doctor for stronger options.
